Job Purpose

The manufacturing engineer will plan, design, set up, modify, optimize, and monitor manufacturing processes in accordance with build plans. They will be specialized in one major technical area of the overall production process and support all technical aspects within that specialty, while at the same time be knowledgeable in and able to contribute to other manufacturing specialties and contribute to the achievement of the Quality Objectives.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Develop NC Programs using CAM software
• Define and optimize processes relating to all aspects of CNC and traditional machining
• Draft process sequence documentation with respect to machining to effectively communicate intentions to production staff and technicians.
• Develop and draft work instructions to standardize processes related to all aspects of machining.
• Assist with internal audits
• Identify process deficiencies and implement improvements to production, methods, and controls.
• Effectively communicate and solve problems with production and engineering staff.

Qualifications

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENT AND EXPERIENCE:
• B.S. in Mechanical, Electrical or Industrial Engineering preferred.
• 3-5 years of experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably in either the aerospace or composites industry
• A background in composite manufacturing or repair preferred composite processing;

Job Purpose

You will be a member of a team of designers who are responsible for composite tooling designs for various industry applications, including both commercial and defense aerospace applications. Because Sawyer Composite designers have a very large impact on the products produced, they are expected to work as a team not only amongst themselves, but also with the manufacturing engineering group. Together, both groups develop products that net high-quality results unequivocally recognized by renowned customers and contribute to the achievement of the Quality Objectives.

Duties and Responsibilities

Execution of the following duties and responsibilities under minimal supervision and oversight from manager:

• Design parts/assemblies utilizing primarily surfacing tools in SolidWorks and/or CATIA V5
• Generate complete, production-ready designs from basic solid models, surfaces, sketches, and verbal direction
• Create fabrication drawings in SolidWorks and/or CATIA V5 that appeal to the needs of both manufacturing and quality engineering, as well as abide by globally standardized Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) practices; must be able to perform a detailed review of own drawings prior to submitting for review
• Lead in design reviews at pre-determined stages with Manufacturing Engineering, Quality, Sales, etc.
• Create and maintain accurate Bills of Materials (BOMs) for assigned projects using Acctivate software
• Execute engineering changes for assigned projects as needed
• Meet project deadlines
• Participate in DFMEA efforts as needed
• Work with customers as needed to ensure the outputs of design meet customer requirements (be a solution-provider)
• Work with vendors as needed to provide functional engineering/design support

Qualifications

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENT AND EXPERIENCE:

• High school diploma or equivalent (GED) at minimum, but Associates degree or higher in Mechanical Design or related field of study is preferred
• Strong technical and mechanical background with adequate proficiency in all aspects of 3D CAD solid modeling, specifically pertaining to surfacing, using SolidWorks and/or CATIA V5
• Experience working within a manufacturing environment (preferred)

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES & QUALIFICATIONS:

Surfacing and mold/tooling design in SolidWorks and/or CATIA V5, as well as composite processing methods

This position will include programming and operating a portable CMM to ensure conformance to customer requirements, internal drawings, and specifications. The position will be full-time, 40 hours per week, Monday-Friday from 7:00 am until 3:30 pm., overtime may be required.

• Operate and program a portable CMM (Leica Laser Tracker and Romer Arm)
